The Assumptions We Never Question

Many of the beliefs guiding our lives were inherited long before we examined them. Growth often begins when we question what we have always assumed to be true.

Most people believe they are seeing reality.

In truth, they are often seeing assumptions.

Assumptions are useful.

Without them, life would become exhausting.

Imagine questioning every door handle before opening it.

However, assumptions become dangerous when they stop being examined.

Many beliefs are inherited rather than chosen.

Ideas about money.

Success.

Relationships.

Work.

Leadership.

We absorb them from parents, schools, culture, and social circles.

Then we spend years defending them as if we discovered them ourselves.

One of the simplest questions in life is also one of the most powerful:

“What if this isn’t true?”

That question has changed businesses, careers, marriages, and entire industries.

Most breakthroughs begin when someone notices an assumption everyone else accepts.

The challenge is that assumptions feel invisible.

Fish rarely notice water.

People rarely notice beliefs.

Until reality starts disagreeing with them.

And reality is often a very patient teacher.
